North Carolina Woman Powerball: Single Mom Of 4 Comes Forward To Claim $188M

A North Carolina woman who won the Powerball jackpot along with two others is making Monday her lucky day. Marie Holmes, a mother of four children, is one of three winners in the $554 million Powerball jackpot that was drawn on February 11.

Fox News reports that Marie Holmes came forward to claim her portion of the Powerball win, which amounts to $188 million over the next 29 years or $127 million before taxes for the lump sum payout. Holmes purchased her winning ticket at a convenience store in Shallotte. According to the report, this is the fourth time a North Carolina resident has won a Powerball jackpot.

The winning numbers were 11, 13, 25, 39, 54, and the Powerball 19.

Besides the North Carolina woman winning this Powerball drawing, another winning ticket holder resides in Puerto Rico and another in Texas. The winner in Puerto Rico has chosen to remain anonymous, and the winner in Texas has yet to come forward. A town about 40 miles north of Dallas in Princeton was where the Texas ticket was purchased.

As the Inquisitr has previously reported on Holmes, one of her children has cerebral palsy. She quit her jobs at Walmart and McDonald’s so she could stay home and care for her children. Now that she’s a Powerball winner, she said she’s going to make sure her kids will be okay. Their education is well taken care of.

“I wouldn’t have none of it if it wasn’t for God,” the 26-year-old mom said.

The North Carolina woman said one of the first things she plans to do with her winning is tithe. She’ll then decide where she wants to move with her family and buy a home at that point.

Holmes also says she’s prepared for all the changes that come with being a lottery winner.

“I’m ready for it. I’m ready to embrace the change. I’m very grateful for what’s about to happen for my family.”

NBC affiliate WECT 6 News reports that Holmes saw a financial advisor and attorney on Thursday.

When Marie Holmes saw the winning numbers on her lottery ticket, she thought that she was going to have a heart attack. Her kids told her she scared them when she was screaming for joy. When she learned that she had the winning numbers on the ticket, she couldn’t wait to let her kids know about the good news.

The huge jackpot made this North Carolina woman a very happy Powerball winner.
