Kanye West Confirms Taylor Swift Studio Collaboration

Kanye West may have repeated his Taylor Swift VMA Awards faux pas with Beck at the Grammy Awards this year, but it looks like his former misstep comes with a silver lining. Kanye has confirmed that he and Taylor will collaborate together in the studio in an interview with Ryan Seacrest Wednesday on his podcast, On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

“Yeah, she wants to get in the studio and we’re definitely going to go in. Any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get in the studio and work.”

It’s hard to imagine what that will sound like, but then most people would have thought a Kanye West and Paul McCartney collaboration odd till their recent single release. (At least the Kanye fans who know who Paul McCartney is.) Although the real wonder may be that the Swift and West would ever speak to each other much less work together after 2009.

Kanye West notoriously stormed the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when Taylor Swift won Best Female Video, interrupting her speech and tarnishing her moment to shine by claiming Beyonce should have won. Taylor and Kanye put the incident aside publicly at the Grammy Awards themselves last week, before Kanye pulled a repeat stage rush during Beck’s Album of the Year acceptance speech, in what appeared initially to be a joke about the Taylor Swift incident. But when Kanye went on another rant about how Beyonce should have won backstage, it was clear Kanye West was serious.

Fans, fellow musicians, and even football players have jumped into the fray to blast Kanye West for his behavior, including Shirley Manson of Garbage and Brandon Browner of the New England Patriots. Kanye tried to backtrack his comments a bit on Seacrest’s podcast today.

“Well first of all, Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game. So, there’s nothing that I will want to do as a fellow musician to disrespect him in any way. And the weird thing is like, and I don’t feel like I have the right to take away from people’s moments, but the reality of it is — and case in point by who came up to me right afterwards — is it’s almost like a chiropractor. You know, you just get a little crook out like, ‘Wow, this crook has been there!’ It’s just a little jolt of truth, right? And then you know, everyone feels better after the fact, or everyone is way more famous after the fact, or everyone sells way more albums after the fact, and then Kanye just goes on being an a**hole to everyone.”

So if Kanye West’s bad behavior to Taylor Swift has landed him a studio collaboration, does this mean we’ll see Beck and Kanye working together after all the hype settles down? People magazine says Kanye West isn’t ruling it out. No word yet from Beck on that.
