Jay Z Buying Hot 97 Just To Sack DJ Funkmaster Flex?

Jay Z doesn’t have any plans to buy up New York radio station, Hot 97. This comes after rumors started to circulate that the hip-hop mogul was interested in acquiring the station.

Music Times previously reported that Jay Z had joined a posse of investors that included Carmelo Anthony, who plays for the New York Knicks, and they were already deep into negotiations about purchasing Hot 97. Music Times got this information from MediaTakeOut, who stated that they’d acquired this news from a “rock solid source.”

Hot 97 is currently owned by Emmis Communications. But this conglomerate have now vehemently denied the allegations that they’re set to sell the radio station.

Music Times reached out for a comment from Emmis Communications, and their spokesperson, Kate Snedeker, stated that it was completely “false.”

But how did these rumors start? Well they originated after DJ Funkmaster Flex went on rant about Jay Z while hosting his radio show on Hot 97.

DJ Funkmaster Flex had huge problems with Jay Z and his Life & Times website, which he believes is nothing but “trash” and pales in comparison to his digital work.

“I don’t care about your website. You website’s trash. Y’all can’t move with me in this digital space. Maybe if y’all copied everything I was doing with the app, your app wouldn’t have crashed the day your album dropped. Don’t play with me. I didn’t take no sides in that situation. Play me like I’m stupid and you’re gonna see a different kind of dude firing off on you. I let you live in this town, don’t think I can’t ruin you.”

This caused speculation to suggest that Jay Z’s response to this verbal sparring would be to spend millions of dollars buying Hot 97 and then firing Flex. Which would probably be the most expensive act of revenge ever conducted.

After Emmis Communication announced that they had no plans to sell their company, DJ Funkmaster Flex opened his show by making reference to these allegations. Instead of saying Hot 97 he introduced it as HOV 97, which was an homage to Jay Z.

These rumors have all but died down now though. But either way this new round of publicity has not only helped to publicise both DJ Funkmaster Flex’s radio show and Hot 97 but it’s also reminded people that Jay Z is as rich as they come. A fact, most people, will more than aware of.
