Mindy Kaling Debuts New Blonde Hair, Talks About Her Exes
Ever since The Office, the world of television has slowly been falling in love with Mindy Kaling. Now that she has her own TV show, The Mindy Project, people are more obsessed with Kaling than ever. That’s why it’s no surprise that the entertainment industry is buzzing over Mindy’s new hair-do: dyed blonde ends.
Mindy is known for showing that women who aren’t standard skinny blondes can be beautiful too, which is why it might surprise some of her fans to see her going unnatural with her hair. But Kaling claims she’s wanted to make this style change for a long time.
According to E! News, Mindy explained, “It’s just something I’ve wanted to do the past couple of months. And then I was like, why not? I don’t know, I kind of just wanted to do it!”
The writer and actress showed off the new blonde highlights at Fox’s TCA All-Star Party. Glamour spoke to Kaling at the party and asked her about the inspiration for the new look. Mindy actually spoke to the issue of betraying her famous non-blonde image and worried what her fans would think. But the person who inspired the look isn’t a natural blonde either.
“I can’t tell if fans will be like, ‘Is she Caucasian now? We didn’t sign up for this!'” Kaling said. “I have a photo of Rihanna that I saw where she had dark hair, but it was kind of blond, and I was like, ‘I want to look like that!’ So I said, ‘What the hell?! This is why you have your own show, right? You can have blond hair!'”
Mindy has admitted she’s not sure if she’s going to keep the look, particularly for future episodes of The Mindy Project.
“Well, I just got it done today,” she said, “so we’ll see…”
In addition to the All-Star party, Kaling debuted her blonde locks to her fans on her Instagram page. She posted a photo of herself with the caption, “I’m blonde now guys, deal with it. @clarisshair & @kateydenno getting me ready for my new life as a R&B singer.”
Mindy also recently did an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, in which she talked about the relationships she keeps with her exes. Typically, Mindy doesn’t stay friends with her ex-boyfriends. But, according to Perez Hilton, she has made one exception: fellow star of The Office B.J. Novak.
“B.J. has the stamp for life as a friend,” Kaling explained. “He feels like family.”
