Nick Cannon Filed For Divorce From Mariah Carey… In December [Breaking]

Nick Cannon has filed for divorce from Mariah Carey. According to TMZ, Nick quietly filed paperwork in December, after the two apparently worked out an agreement that they could both live with. The singers had to decide what to do about shared property, and custody of their young twins, and wanted to do get everything squared away before filing paperwork to ensure that the process went as smoothly — and privately — as possible.

As the site points out, Nick filed court documents 10 days after Mariah showed up three hours late for the NBC tree lighting taping. Sources say that she was frazzled when she arrived, and that she was on the phone (likely with lawyers) trying to figure out some details of her divorce. Now the world knows that was probably the case indeed.

News that Nick Cannon filed for divorce from Mariah Carey comes just days after a report that the two were trying to work things out. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, sources claimed that Mariah wanted to give her marriage another chance after taking some time apart from Nick. And while this could still be the case, divorce proceedings are already in motion. That’s not to say that the two won’t reconcile, but it does suggest that things between the two were over a long time ago.

“She’s extremely lonely and begging Nick for another chance, telling him she wants things to go back to how they used to be. Mariah is completely overwhelmed as a single parent. And she now sees what a hands-on dad he was,” said a source.

Nick and Mariah announced their separation back last year, but didn’t rush into filing paperwork. Sources say that Mariah wanted to be sure to protect what was hers, especially because of her new residency in Las Vegas. According to Mail Online, Nick won’t be seeing a dime from his ex’s new deal. And that’s just how Mariah wanted it. Since divorce papers were filed before Mariah signed a contract with Caesar’s Palace, that’s likely how things would go anyway.

The details of Nick and Mariah’s divorce are unknown at this time, but it is presumed that the two listed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. That seems to be the ever-popular choice for celebrity couples.
