Lily Allen names baby Ethel Mary.

The name of musician Lily Allen’s five week-old baby girl was accidentally revealed after Allen’s mother, Alison Owen accidentally leaked it on Facebook.

Lily Allen’s mother, a high profile Hollywood producer known for producing films like Shaun of The Dead, The Other Boleyn Girl and Jane Eyre, mentioned the baby was named Ethel Mary in a message to a friend on the popular social networking site.

Although Allen has yet to confirm herself, the news spread to the other social network monster, Twitter, and an old friend of Lily Allen’s husband Sam Cooper confirmed the name on his very own twitter page.

The usually very outspoken pop singer wrote the birth of her 7lb 3oz daughter was “totes amaze” (British slang for “totally amazing”) on her Twitter page a day after Ethel’s arrival.

One can deduce the privacy surrounding the baby is intentional since Allen has experienced two painful and very public miscarriages prior to the birth of baby Ethel Mary.

In August of 2010, Lilly Allen announced she was pregnant with the couple’s first child, which she confirmed to be a boy, but suffered a miscarriage at six months after she went into a pre-term delivery due to a viral blood infection. Her first miscarriage was at four months in 2008.

Ethel Mary shares her name with a few famous faces including I Love Lucy’s Ethel Merman, stage actress Ethel Barrymore, and gospel vocalist Ethel Waters. The meaning behind the name Ethel is “noble” and was once short for Etheldreda before it became an independent name in the 1840s.
