Taylor Swift Will Remain Number One On ‘Billboard 200’ Album Chart

Taylor Swift will remain at number one on Billboard‘s album chart when it is announced on Wednesday evening. Hits Daily Double, which compiles a sales list every Tuesday that is almost exactly like Billboard‘s (give or take a couple thousand copies for each album) says that 1989 has sold 111,686 copies in it’s 11th week. Taylor Swift should be happy; even selling that many copies the first week of an album release is considered an accomplishment.

Speaking of Billboard and Taylor Swift, the magazine gave 1989 a glowing review on its release in October of 2015.

“A clean break with the core audience is a risky move for any artist: At worst, it’s like ill-advised plastic surgery, a blandifying of the distinctive qualities and quirks that made the person interesting in the first place. But Swift avoided that fate entirely with this album, making her rare ability to write for multiple audiences and ages even more universal.”

Taylor Swift’s most recent number one hit “Blank Space” is currently at number two. Music Times gave the song a rave review.

“Like the lead single ‘Shake It Off,’ Blank Space was co-written by pop writers extraordinaire Max Martin and Shellback. The mid-tempo jam features an earhook-y work and catchy melody for days, with theatric rises and falls in Swift’s speak-singing voice.”

Swift’s next single “Style” should easily be the next number one hit for her. It begins with a guitar rift and then leads into a pop song that could have easily came out in the late 1980s. Swift’s voice is layered like many 1980s and 1990s dance tracks. It has an instant hook that even outdoes the number one “Blank Space.”

Swift obviously remembers the fans who have made 1989 a number one success. Us Magazine reports that Taylor gave a fan a $1,989 check to help pay for her student loans. Taylor Swift wrote a little note with the check.

“Hi you. I was thinking about you today, and how you have been there cheering me on in the most thoughtful and creative ways. I love the video you made of me and my friends, and your text posts always crack me up or make me think.”

Taylor Swift has always shown appreciation for her fans and has repeatedly claimed she would be nowhere without them at her concerts. In 2009, many thought Swift would be a flash in the pan. Now, Taylor Swift is the biggest musical act in the world.
