‘Far Cry 4’ Xbox One Owners Finally Get Explanation On Why Game Stopped Working

Far Cry 4 for Xbox One users got a rather unpleasant surprise on Monday. Those who had Far Cry 4 digitally on their Xbox Ones found they could not actually play the game. The mystery as to why Far Cry 4 wasn’t playable for a time lasted for the entire week, but finally it appears Microsoft has come out with an explanation.

At the same time that those who had digitally purchased Far Cry 4 were having problems playing the game, anyone looking to buy it new on the Xbox Live store were out of luck, according to Kotaku. The game completely disappeared for a time, and now the company seems to be an issue with the way Far Cry 4 was using DRM technology. The problem was really only exacerbated by the apparent cluelessness as to why gamers were having this problem on the Xbox One.

It was rather obvious that the problems were not repeating themselves for people who were trying to play Far Cry 4 on the PS4 or the PC. The company finally came out and made a statement through a press release, attempting to shed light on the subject, according to Attack of the Fanboy.

“On Monday, some users were unable to access their digitally purchased base edition of ‘Far Cry 4.’ Our team has resolved the issue and all access to the title has been restored. If customers own the rights to a game, they can visit their download history and initiate a re-download whenever they please – even if the game has been delisted from Xbox Store and is no longer available for purchase.”

The problem with this explanation, of course, is that doesn’t appear to be any guarantee it won’t happen again. There also isn’t any real explanation as to why the title was delisted in the first place. Still, Far Cry 4 players can at least rest easy in knowing this wasn’t some sort of move to block access to the game. It was a technical issue. The timing of this is the real problem.

The lack of access to the game comes just weeks after gamers weren’t able to get any access to Xbox Live on Christmas thanks to Lizard Squad and their hacking. At least Microsoft had the cover of both Xbox Live and PSN going down that time. This time, only Xbox Live was having the problem. The good news is, by all indications, there aren’t any problems with digital copies of Far Cry 4 on the Xbox One now.
