‘PlanetSide 2’ PS4 Beta Hitting In Two Weeks, Sign Ups Still Open
The Xbox One got a beta announcement yesterday in the form of SMITE. The PlayStation 4 and Sony took their turn on Wednesday by revealing that the PlanetSide 2 beta for the console is right around the corner. The details on how to get in, when the beta starts, and what to expect from the free-to-play MMOFPS were all shared by developer Sony Online Entertainment (SOE).
The PlanetSide 2 beta will launch for the PlayStation 4 on January 20, according to a PlayStation Blog post by Executive Producer Clint Worley. The game was officially launched on the PC in November 2012, following a short three-and-a-half month beta.

Those interested in participating in the PlanetSide 2 beta for the PS4 should head over to the game’s website. An email address is all that is required.
Worley says SOE will invite a few thousand players into the beta when it first launches, with additional invite waves coming throughout the closed beta period. He added the following.
“Please note players will be invited in chronological order of when they signed up.”
There will be a few differences between the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of PlanetSide 2, according to a published FAQ. The core gameplay mechanics will remain the same between the two versions of the game, but the user interface for the PS4 has been redone to accommodate the DualShock 4 controller. Additionally, PlayStation 4 players are being told that “all content currently available on the PC version may not be immediately available on the PS4 version.”
SOE will be testing “servers, performance, and various other aspects of the game” during the beta. Don’t expect PlanetSide 2 to be available 24/7 when the PS4 beta starts, though. SOE says to expect “limited server availability” when the beta starts, with 24/7 availability coming as the game approaches its official launch.
Worley is asking for feedback from players that get into the PlanetSide 2 beta.
“We also want you to share constructive feedback on PlanetSide 2… How does the game look and feel? Is navigating through the menus intuitive and utilizing DualShock 4 in the best way? All players in the Closed Beta will have access to our special Beta forums, which will be the primary location for development interaction and feedback. We want the massive battles to make your heart pound and adrenaline pump, so share your thoughts with us.”
The release of PlanetSide 2 is an important stepping stone for Sony Online Entertainment. As previously reported in the Inquisitr, it is also providing the foundation for the console release of H1Z1, SOE’s zombie survival MMO.
