Robert De Niro Urges People To Donate Money On PayPal For Families Of 2 Slain Police Officers

PayPal donations for the families of two murdered New York police officers total more than $242,000, so far. Oscar winner Robert De Niro is asking people to step up and contribute to the Daily News fund from which every cent will go to the families of Officers WenJian Liu and Rafael Ramos who were ambushed and killed in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on Dec. 20.

WenJian Liu was a 32-year-old New York police officer and a newlywed of just three months. He supported a large extended family. Rafael Ramos was 40. He left behind a wife and two teenage sons.

“It’s not only our brave policemen and women who sacrifice for us, it’s also their families. They’ve done their duty, and now it’s time to do ours.”

So far, hundreds of compassionate and concerned contributors donated money on PayPal for the family members and relatives still struggling with the appalling murders.

The biggest PayPal donation is $10,000 from an anonymous donor. Other generous and caring people donated money on PayPal in increments of $5, $10, or $20.

Robert De Niro expressed his appreciation for the support of hundreds of New York residents.

“At times like these, New Yorkers know what to do. Thank you for joining me in contributing to the Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos families.”

In addition to the PayPal donations, New Yorkers and people in the surrounding area have expressed their condolences to the police officer’s families.

Evelyn and Lawrence Macchia of Queens wrote the following.

“May Officers Ramos and Liu forever rest in peace and their families know they are not alone in their grief. May this never happen again.”

Brick, New Jersey resident Jacqueline Padrone wrote supporting the Liu and Ramos families was a return to her roots.

“Once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker. My family and I want to send our sympathy to both the Ramos and Liu families in their time of need.”

A Lynbrook Long Island resident Victor Perez expressed his wish and anticipation that something good can come out from this deadly event.

“Please bless and comfort the families of these two police officers. Please help to heal the split that currently is dividing our country on many levels.”
