Kanye West Supports Sony’s Push For Black James Bond

Outspoken rapper and producer Kanye West has weighed in on rumored reports that English actor Idris Elba could be the new James Bond.

Kanye has praised the actor’s talents, remarking that Elba is one of the biggest talents in the industry.

“I know Idris a little bit and he is a big talent. The movies he has been making are special, and when the role for James Bond comes up it needs to be his. James Bond is a role made for British actors and you won’t find a British actor who has the talent of Idris. To be honest you won’t find many anywhere who have his talent.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s co-chair, Amy Pascal, recommended Elba for the role to an executive at Columbia Pictures, the distributor of the James Bond series. Though many agree that Elba would be a formidable frontrunner for the role, there still remain critics.

Previously, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh berated the rumors of Idris Elba’s possible casting as James Bond. Limbaugh said, “He was white and Scottish, period. That is who James Bond is.”

“We’ve had 50 years of White Bonds because Bond is white. Bond was never black. Ian Fleming never created a black Brit to play James Bond.”

However, Kanye went on to discuss how casting a Black James Bond would be “visionary.”

“Artists should be visionaries. A black James Bond would be visionary no doubt. Something that 30 years ago would have seemed crazy should now be something that is a real possibility.”

Elba responded to the recent rumor in good natured fashion on Twitter.

Elba posted a picture of himself remarking, “Isn’t 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people.”

Regardless of what others think, Idris Elba has already won over a many despite being all but confirmed the next James Bond
