New Year’s Eve Ball Drop Live Feed, Where To Watch

The New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square is upon us and we have all the information you need to watch the live feed from the comfort of your own home.

Of course, all major American networks will broadcast the festivities leading up to welcoming a New Year, 2015. However, more and more people are resorting to and looking for different mediums to watch the ball drop via a live feed. If that is you, you have come to the right place.

If you want a commercial free experience, the place to be for the New Year’s Eve ball drop directly from Times Square — beginning at about 6 p.m. ET — is on the internet. There are several feeds that will be covering the craziness in New York City.

Some of the things you will witness include the lighting and raising of the New Year’s Eve Ball at 6 p.m. ET, hourly countdowns, AP’s Year-End News video, live musical performances — which includes Taylor Swift, Enrique Iglesias, and One Direction — and special guest, the International Rescue Committee, which will be joined by the Mayor of New York City to push the Waterford Crystal button that signals the ball drop.

Despite the recent crisis in New York City following the murder of two NYPD police officers, things are expected to be just as they have been in previous years. If you are attending in person, you can expect an extremely heightened state of alert to keep the public safe.

Approximately one million people are expected to show up to view the New Year’s Eve ball drop, and many more millions will watch the live broadcast and feeds online. The ball is made up of 2,688 Waterford crystal triangles, each one representing a theme.

This year, 288 triangles were replaced with new ones symbolizing the “Gift of Fortitude.” Each triangle has diamond cuts on either side of a crystal pillar. They are part of the 10-year “Greatest Gifts” series. New triangles with new designs will swap out older triangles through 2023, according to USA Today.

The New Year’s Eve ball drop first took place in 1907 and it has certainly evolved through the decades. Back then the ball was made of iron and wood, and weighed 700 pounds, containing 100 light bulbs.

To welcome 2015, this New Year’s ball has 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs, which can display an array of more than 16 million colors. Quite a change indeed.

To watch the New Year’s Eve ball drop live feed, tune to The Official Site of Times Square at 6 p.m. ET. Happy New Year!
