Nicki Minaj Throws Phone At Acting Partner, Video Surfaces Online
Before becoming a world-famous rapper, Nicki Minaj wanted to act. In fact, she went to school at the prestigious Fiorello LaGuardia High School in Queens. There, she honed her acting chops and pursued her dream of becoming an actress. No wonder she has a flair for the theatrical when it comes to her performances and her music videos. In a recent episode of the British TV show You Saw Them Here First, they showed footage of a young Nicki Minaj (then Onika Maraj) rehearsing with a classmate.
In the clip, Minaj is shown saying, “Call that judge right now and tell him I can have my baby back!” before proceeding to throw a phone at her acting partner. The drama teacher interrupts the scene, thinking it got a little too intense when Minaj threw the phone. The unnamed acting partner assured Nicki and the teacher that she wasn’t hurt.
While Minaj made a name for herself as a rapper, she didn’t necessarily abandon acting. Just this year, she appeared in the Cameron Diaz comedy, The Other Woman, and she even has some voice acting work under her belt for her role as Steffie in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, as well as an appearance in the animated show, Steven Universe.
In an interview with Marie Claire in 2013, Minaj revealed that she will probably return to acting one day. She says, “One day, when I start getting a couple gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting. I just never know.”
Recently, the controversial rapper opened up about her high school experience in an interview with Teen Vogue. According to Minaj, her time at LaGuardia inspired her creatively.
“It was the first time I felt like I really fit in. Everyone there was creative,” she said. “For once, I didn’t feel like there was something weird about me.”
However, back in September, the school denied Minaj’s request to appear as a guest speaker. The rap star wanted to come back to her alma mater to talk to the students about stardom and her success. Minaj immediately took to Twitter to discuss the school’s rejection.

Despite the rejection, 2014 proved to be a great year for Minaj. Her latest album, The Pinkprint, is a huge success, and it was announced earlier this month that she is nominated for two Grammy Awards.
