Bobby Shmurda Spent Christmas In Jail, Rapper Is Still On Rikers Island

Bobby Shmurda spent Christmas in jail, his attorney has confirmed.

Howard Greenberg has provided an update to The Fader on the rapper’s current plight, and even though there were rumors that his record label had posted his bail, Shmurda’s lawyer admitted that wasn’t the case.

“There is no news. We’re just trying to put something else together now.”

It had previously been alleged that Epic, the rapper’s record label, would put up the $2 million bail that Bobby Shmurda needs to be released.

When Greenberg was asked on Christmas Eve where Bobby Shmurda was at that exact moment he candidly admitted that he was on Rikers Island, which is New York City’s main jail complex.

“He is on Rikers Island. I’m on my way up there as we’re speaking.”

In a follow-up phone call with The Fader, Greenberg admitted that he wasn’t actually able to see Bobby Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, on Wednesday, December 24, because he had another visitor at the time.

According to Vibe, Bobby Shmurda, alongside other members of his G29 squad, have been charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Bobby Shmurda was arrested on Wednesday, December 17, outside of New York City’s Quad Recording Studios, which is located in Times Square. He was one of 15 people that were arrested at the scene, which was believed to have been the result of a two-year investigation by New York Police Department’s Brooklyn South special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Narcotics Gang Unit.

If Bobby Shmurda is found guilty of five of the eight charges brought against him, he could spend between eight and 25 years in prison.

When asked for his view of these charges Greenberg immediately went on the defensive and called them “bulls***.”

“I’ve analyzed the indictment down to the bone. It’s just talking. Bobby shouldn’t be charged with anything. I have told your colleagues in the media, the indictment is a bunch of b*******. The first 41 pages are just kids talking, in not even English. Bobby isn’t charged with anything except talk in the indictment.”

Greenberg, who is widely regarded as one of the most prominent criminal defense lawyers in Brooklyn, also has his own views on why Bobby Shmurda was arrested.

“The government hates rap and the government hates rappers,” he declared, while he also insisted that he is “not going to let them crucify Bobby Shmurda.”
