Oprah Winfrey Admits Her Career Wouldn’t Be What It Is If She Had Children

Oprah Winfrey is named one of “The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014.” The media billionaire tells Barbara Walters in an upcoming special that if it wasn’t for being childless, she wouldn’t have the career she now does.

An ABC News preview of the interview just published reveals some of Oprah’s thoughts.

“I could not have had the life or the career in the way that I had it if I’d chosen to have children.”

The Oprah Winfrey Show ended in 2011, and Oprah says she doesn’t miss it at all. She doesn’t miss “always chasing numbers” for ratings. She says the past 25 years are nothing but a “blur” to her since all she did was work the entire time.

Winfrey has her OWN network, which was a huge launch for her. The first few years were all about getting OWN established and well-known. This year, her network saw record viewers. She also spent most of 2014 on an inspirational tour, and published a book called What I Know For Sure. If that’s not enough for a full year, she also produced and appeared in the film, Selma. The movie opens in New York City and Los Angeles on December 25; it’ll open everywhere on January 9, 2015.

As for her relationship with Stedman Graham, things are still strong between them. Maybe more so, Oprah says.

“As we grow together, as we get older together, he becomes a more affirming and more loving part of my life than he’s ever been.”

Oprah does say life is more enjoyable since her show ended. She looks forward to doing more things she likes.

“For example, I’m going to do something I’ve always wanted to do. I wanted to do that truffle hunt, with the pigs and the dogs. So, I’m at least taking some time.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Barbara Walters dropped a few more names on the list of who is “The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014.” She says Neil Patrick Harris, Taylor Swift, Chelsea Handler, Michael Strahan, Scarlett Johansson, and David Koch. Three interviews will be done during the TV special, which airs Sunday, December 14 at 9 p.m. on ABC.

Oprah will interview Michael Sam, the NFL’s first openly gay player. He’s played for the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams. He’ll be in his first sit-down interview with Oprah after being cut from the NFL.

Oprah Winfrey conducts interviews with some of the nation’s most intriguing celebrities, so it makes sense that she’s named one of this year’s “10 Most Fascinating People.”
