Green Cat: Bulgaria’s Glowing Green Feline Roams The Streets, And You Won’t Believe How It Got Its Emerald Hue [Video]

A green cat in Bulgaria is making headlines thanks to its brightly colored coat. At first, animal lovers were furious because they thought the hard-to-miss feline had been abused and maliciously painted green. The cat in question actually turned green for a different, less sinister reason. The adorable emerald cat simply chose the worst place in Bulgaria for a catnap.

“The emerald green cat [in Bulgaria] is this hue reportedly because it usually sleeps on an abandoned heap of synthetic green paint in a garage,” explained Rex Features, which posted a video of the colorful creature on YouTube.

Now that’s a cat of a different color. Of course, it still begs the question, “Why does anyone in Bulgaria permit a cat to sleep regularly on an abandoned pile of green paint?” The critter calls the coastal tourist town of Varna its home, and locals started a page on Facebook called “Punishment to the the perpetrator of this criminal act!” before realizing the real reason why this friendly Bulgarian cat turned green, reported Eyewitness News ABC 7.

It may be a relief to learn that the cat wasn’t painted green on purpose, but where are its owners, and why can’t someone provide the animal with a more suitable home? Those questions remain unanswered.

Perhaps the emerald cat is a stray. According to Softpedia, the cat suddenly showed up one day, “freaking out” both the Bulgarian locals and the tourists. At first, the cat was mildly tinged with the unusual color, but gradually it blossomed into the glowing green cat that can be seen in the video.

The funky feline is so friendly that other cats have no problems welcoming it into their midst, and the animal can often be seen keeping the company of more common cats as it roams the streets of Bulgaria.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a cat that was accidentally packed into a moving box in Virginia traveled by land and sea for 36 days before landing at its owner’s new home in Hawaii. During the month-long ordeal in a box, the feline survived without food or water. After a short, happy reunion with owner Ashley Barth and her daughters, the animal was placed in quarantine at a local veterinarian. The quarantine will last for three months and cost Barth a whopping $4,000.
