‘LEGO Batman 3’ Suicide Squad DLC Announced As ‘The Squad’

The LEGO video game series has always taken a very comedic approach to what is normally a violent or emotional moment in their licensed games. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is following the pattern with “The Squad,” a Suicide Squad DLC that has been tamed down to make it more family friendly.

The Suicide Squad is a dysfunctional group of super villains in the DC Comics universe that first appeared in 1959 with the comic The Brave And The Bold #25. Suicide Squad works at the behest of the U.S. Government, performing black op type missions in return for reduced or commuted prison sentences. The current roster from yet another reboot in the DC Universe shows the roster including Black Manta, Headshot, Deathstroke, Joker’s Daughter and Harley Quinn.

According to ComicBook.com, LEGO Batman 3‘s Suicide Squad DLC is following the a similar roster, but will simply be dubbed, “The Squad.” Players of the latest entry into the LEGO Batman franchise will be able to play as Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Headshot, Deathstroke, as well as other members of the team, some of whom can be unlocked currently in the launch version of the game.

The press release, viewable on Gamasutra, for the DLC states a mysterious figure has infiltrated Belle Reve Penitentiary, and it’s up to players to smash their way through the prison as Deadshot, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and other members of The Squad to hunt down this infiltrator before Amanda Waller’s—and The Squad’s—secrets are uncovered.

The Squad DLC for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is one part of six planned add-on packs for the game. Each pack will include unique levels, stories and free play modes in addition to 40 new characters. The Season Pass is available for $14.99 on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. Those who opt for the á la carte purchasing method will pay $2.99 for The Squad DLC.

No information was given if the DLC pack is coming to the Wii U or hand held versions of the game.

The Suicide Squad is also receiving a Hollywood movie as DC Comics is developing their own interconnected movie and television universe in the wake of the astronomical success of the Marvel brand. Shows like Arrow and The Flash have been generating positive reviews and ratings for the CW Network. The Inquisitr has also reported previously on the casting for the Suicide Squad movie which is already being compared to Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of how it fits thematically into a universe with heavyweights such as Superman and Batman.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is now available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS and PC. The Squad DLC will be available for purchase in early 2015.
