Bill Cosby Child Sex Abuse Claim: Woman Files First Civil Lawsuit
Bill Cosby has been accused of child sex abuse, in the first civil lawsuit filed since allegations resurfaced. Cosby stands accused of sexually assaulting Judy Huth in 1974, when she was just 15 years old.
In her complaint against Cosby, published by Philipelphia Magazine, 55 year old Huth alleges that the veteran comedian plied her with alcohol and invited her and a friend to the Playboy Mansion.
According to her complaint, Cosby was well aware of the girls ages and told them to state they were 19 if asked. The lawsuit details how Mr Cosby directed the plaintiff to an adjoining bedroom of the mansion when she requested to use the bathroom.
“Cosby directed her to a bathroom within a bedroom suite near the game room. When plaintiff emerged from the bathroom, she found Cosby sitting on the bed. He asked her to sit beside him. He then proceeded to sexually molest her by attempting to put his hand down her pants, and then taking her hand in his hand and performing a sex act on himself without her consent.”
Huth claims that she only remembered the incident three years ago, citing it as the cause of much “mental anguish” throughout her life. Despite the allegation occurring 10 years after the commission of the offence, Ms Huth has requested that the limitations be waived because “her psychological injuries and illnesses were caused by the sexual abuse perpetrated by Cosby” within the past three years.
Bill Cosby’s attorney Martin Singer responded to inquiries by labeling the latest allegations as “unsubstantiated, fantastical stories.” Indeed, all previous accusations have been dismissed out of hand as “increasingly ridiculous.” But these new allegations, along with the filed lawsuit, have the potential to take this scandal to even greater heights.
The fresh claims, and the first accusation of assaulting an under-age woman, come just one day after Cosby resigned from the board of trustees of Temple University in Philadelphia. Add to this, several major broadcasters scrapping projects due to involve Mr Cosby, and the situation – irrespective of guilt – looks increasingly desperate. Faced with increasing pressure and mounting criticism, the entertainer has cancelled many scheduled tour dates.
The lawsuit filed by Ms Huth is requesting an unlimited amount of compensatory damages – punitive and exemplary – due to her “age and innocence” at the time. But even with the increasing likelihood that Bill Cosby will soon be required to address these allegations, will we ever find out the truth?
