Kevin Smith has played supporting characters in his own films for years, so it’s only natural that he would be appearing in his own biopic.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a biopic is currently being assembled by two filmmakers who decided to fund the project on Indiegogo. The project is called Shooting Clerks, and it hopes to tell Smith’s story as a convenience store clerk turned full fledged indie darling and feature filmmaker.
In the summary on their funding page, the filmmakers explains their Kevin Smith biopic and what they hope to achieve.
“Shooting Clerks details the making of Smith’s seminal film and the trials he had to endure in order to do so. It’s an indie underdog story. It’s Rocky with cameras. We have a great cast in place, some of which you may recognize from Clerks, namely, Ernie O’Donnell (Rick Derris), Scott Schiaffo (Chewlies Gum Rep), Vinnie Periera (various roles), Betsy Broussard (RST Dental School customer) and of course, Kevin Smith himself. The crew is small, so as to keep costs low, but highly capable and very dedicated.”
Eventually, Smith got wind of the project, and agreed to make a cameo as a Canadian reporter called Larkin Eve. Smith will also narrate some of the film as well.
Back in February, Smith taped an endorsement for the campaign’s budget.
“I think it’s avery creative project. I would also like to see what I would look like portrayed by a young actor thinner than I was when I made the actual movie. It will be really nice to see a kid playing young Kev Smith without child baring [sic] hips… I want to see this movie.”
The film is in production and will film in Vancouver, New Jersey, and the United Kingdom. As of right now, it’s looking like it may make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
Fans seem to be pretty excited about the new film.

Currently Kevin Smith is shooting the second film in his Canadian trilogy, Yoga Hosers. The film stars Johnny Depp as his alter ego Guy Lapointe, and his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, and Smith’s daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, have major parts in the comedy as well. After that, Smith will film Helena Handbag and the anticipated end to his Clerks trilogy, Clerks III.
