Da Mao The Panda Discovers The Fun Of Snow [Video]

It looks like one panda bear in the Toronto Zoo has found a new way to be adorable: play in the snow. His name is Da Mao, and it looks like he loves sliding down snowy hillsides.

The zoo’s camera caught the panda sliding through the snow as if he were a sled.

Pandas are not natives to snowy areas. According to the Huffington Post, pandas reside in temperate, wet forests. Which makes the Toronto video amusing, but also interesting, that an animal can enjoy a foreign climate so well.

The Toronto Zoo said on its YouTube site, “During today’s snowfall, our cameras caught giant panda Da Mao ‘bear-bogganing’ in his outdoor exhibit. Perhaps he’s discovered a new winter sport?”

The zoo’s curator, Maria Franke, added, “He loves the snow even more when it’s fresh and it’s actually snowing. He makes his own luge track, his own toboggan hill. He should be in the Olympics.”

Six-year-old Da Mao is on loan from a zoo in China, and was born in the Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding in 2008. He is one of two giant pandas in the Toronto zoo, where he’s expected to be on display in Toronto until 2018, according to ABC News. He has been there since 2013, so this isn’t Da Mao’s first experience playing in the snow.

The zoo’s video has started to trend on the internet and has already cleared one million views.

In the end, the snow-day video offers up more evidence that panda bears are one of the most adorable animals in nature.
