AP Fact Check Exposes Lies In Obama Speech

The Associated Press (AP) is not known for criticizing Barack Obama, but the news organization recently came out with its own fact check that exposes the lies in his speech last Thursday that indicated that he will be taking unilateral action to halt deportations of illegals.

In his speech, Obama said that the immigration reform by executive order should be a “temporary solution, and that a permanent solution needs to be made by Congress,” according to the Inquisitr. As part of that solution, illegal immigrants who qualify will be granted a green card for three years.

NewsBusters is calling the Obama speech fallacies Gruberisms, named after Obama administration healthcare consultant Jonathan Gruber. Gruber was recently discovered to have boasted that Obamacare was designed to exploit the American voters’ “stupidity” while eluding “honest accounting by hiding both its cost and the taxes necessary to pay for it,” reports National Review.

Here are Obama’s Gruberisms versus the facts according to the AP fact check.

OBAMA: “It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive—only Congress can do that. All we’re saying is, we’re not going to deport you.”

THE FACTS: He is lying about the fact that the changes will make those covered eligible for work permits. This will allow them to be legally employed in the country. And, as a result, they will be competing with citizens and legal residents for better paying jobs.

OBAMA: “Although this summer there was a brief spike in unaccompanied children being apprehended at our border, the number of such children is now actually lower than it’s been in nearly two years.”

THE FACTS: The numbers absolutely surged this year, and it was more than a brief spike. The number of unaccompanied children apprehended at the border has been on the rise since the 2011 budget year. That year, about 16,000 children were found crossing the border alone. In 2012, the Border Patrol reported more than 24,000 children, followed by more than 38,800 in 2013. In the last budget year, more than 68,361 children were apprehended.

OBAMA: “Overall, the number of people trying to cross our border legally is at its lowest level since the 1970’s. Those are the facts.”

THE FACTS: In the 2014 budget year, the Border Patrol made 486,651 arrests of those crossing the border, among the fewest since the early 1970s. However, border arrests have been on the rise since 2011.

OBAMA: “When I took office, I committed to fixing this broken immigration system. And, I began by doing what I could to secure our borders.”

THE FACTS: He failed to mention that, as a candidate for president in 2008, he promised to have an immigration bill within his first year in office and move forward quickly on it. Sadly, he never kept that promise to the Latino community.

Our president’s recent executive action, shrouded in deceit, is worrisome and alarming. And since the AP’s fact check that exposes Obama’s lies in his recent speech, American citizens are left asking, what else is he lying to them about?
