WWE Wrestler John Cena’s Video Makes Us Appreciate Fake Things

If you haven’t heard, WWE wrestler John Cena is the star of a new Foot Locker commercial. It’s particularly funny to those who love to watch what has long been known as a sport that is choreographed with scripted storylines. Uproxx states that Cena “knocks the Foot Locker commercials out of the park” by showing how “fake things are still cool and entertaining.”

In the commercial (below), two guys talk about how they can’t believe that the “Week of Greatness” is back — for sneaker fans, that means a week of the year’s biggest premium sneaker releases.

John Cena appears (out of nowhere?) and joins the conversation. He doesn’t talk about a great pair of kicks, but instead he tells the guys about the importance of something he calls “suspension of disbelief.”

“Guys, you don’t have to believe something’s real to enjoy it. It’s called suspension of disbelief.”

One of the men in the video tells Cena, “[b]ut the ‘Week of Greatness’ is real…” to which the WWE wrestler responds, “Right… but if it wasn’t, I still made you happy and that’s totally OK. That’s my point.”

The reaction to the Cena’s Foot Locker commercial is comical, with many fans (and non-fans) commenting about it on Twitter.

Sporting News states that John Cena isn’t the only pro sports star appearing in Foot Locker’s “Week of Greatness” series of commercials this week. The brand-name athletic shoe and apparel chain is kicking off the holiday season with several humorous pro-athlete videos just days before more than 20 footwear releases begin (November 22).

Boxer Manny Pacquiao and NBA players James Harden, Derrick Rose and Tim Duncan star in their own Foot Locker commercials, with several of them as funny as the yearly Doritos Crash the Super Bowl commercials.

Is John Cena’s commercial the best of the bunch? All of the “Week of Greatness” videos are currently up on Foot Locker’s YouTube channel. Go check them out and see which one you think is the greatest.
