June Shannon: Honey Boo Boo’s Mama June Failed To Pay Child Support For Molested Daughter
June Shannon is raising new controversy after reports that the embattled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch was once a deadbeat who was years behind in child support to her molested daughter.
This week, TMZ found that June Shannon failed to pay child support for her daughter Anna (also known as Chickadee), who was taken out of her care in 2003.
June’s mother, Sandra Hale, became Anna’s guardian after the girl claimed that Mama June’s boyfriend, Mark McDaniel, forced her to perform oral sex on him. June Shannon was required to pay her mother $100 per month in child support, but for nearly six years she failed to, amassing a $4,144.62 debt.
June Shannon has seen plenty of other bad news recently. TLC decided to pull the plug on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo when it emerged that Mama June was dating a convicted sex offender. And in a recent interview, June revealed that she lost her virginity at age 12 and went on to date much older men through her teenage years.
“I had no idea what it was, how to whatever. And then it kind of escalated from there. I was dating men who were in their 20s and 30s. I was just honestly looking for the attention I wasn’t getting at home,” June said during her candid interview with Entertainment Tonight.
June also admitted that at first she didn’t believe that her boyfriend could have molested Anna, believing instead that her daughter had made up the story. June admitted that she now believes Anna, but tried to explain away her behavior.
“I don’t think that my sexual experiences at a young age makes anything different than what Anna went through. It doesn’t make it any better… You don’t think somebody you’ve been with for five years would do anything like that honestly,” June said.
But June Shannon ultimately got out of trouble for her failure to pay child support. Though she was initially hit with a contempt charge, it was dismissed three months later. It’s believed that Mama June paid up for the child support debt.
