Yaybahar: Traditionally Made Instrument Makes You Wonder What We Need Synthesizers For Anyway [Video]

It’s hard to imagine that we’re still hearing new music after all of the time humanity has spent on the planet, but it seems like musicians are always finding new ways to make unique sounds. The modern era has been defined by synthesizers that were relatively absent in popular music until the 1970s, and fans can only wonder in what new direction technology will push toward in the way music is created in the upcoming decades–and if that change even ends up involving computers at all after seeing what can come from something like the Yaybahar.

One new instrument is managing to recreate the sounds of digital synthesizers with stunning precision, despite the fact that the instrument is made entirely through traditional means. Strings, coil springs, and drums make up the incredible device, which was invented by Istanbul-based musician Görkem ?en. His Yaybahar could easily be mistaken for a synthesizer on record, though you’ll have to listen for yourself to see if you think the naturally created sound is superior or not.
