Get A Closer Look At Katarina Sreckovic, The Reporter Who Almost Got Fired For Being Too Hot
Too hot for TV sports? That’s what Katarina Sreckovic is saying she was told last week after Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade squad asked her to leave the sidelines. Sreckovic’s crime: The Serbian stunner was reportedly distracting the players on the pitch. A glance at Sreckovic’s Instagram shows that the Red Stars might have had a point.
Of course, it should go without saying that the Red Stars don’t in fact have a point. If Sreckovic’s attractiveness is too much for the Red Stars players, it seems like that’s likely more a commentary on the players’ dedication to practice than anything Sreckovic is doing herself.
That said, it’s hard to say one wouldn’t be distracted oneself if Sreckovic was on the sidelines. Katarina’s Instagram feed is a veritable cavalcade of “Wait, what was I supposed to be doing?” material.
So, like we were saying… There was totally a thing we were saying? Something about Sreckovic almost getting canned due to the Red Star players’ inability to concentrate on things other than Sreckovic? Katarina’s situation being indicative of a biased system in which women are expected to tailor their own actions in order to account for men’s supposed inability to control themselves? Indeed. Something like that. Fortunately, Sreckovic’s argument that the players would “get used to” her presence on the sideline won out, and she was able to keep pursuing her dream job.
“I admit it was a problem at the start,” Sreckovic told the Daily Mail last week, “but I think they’ve got used to me now. It was tough though because for a while it seemed as if they might not be able to work with me at all.”
It’s for the best that the Red Stars, of which Katarina is a big fan, have been able to look past Sreckovic and back to the pitch. The team has more to worry about than lovely sideline reporters. The Red Stars were excluded from Champions League play for the 2014-2015 season, apparently due to continued failure to properly pay employees and other clubs. Reports that Red Stars’ accounts receivable personnel were also distracted by Sreckovic are as yet unconfirmed.
It’s unclear what impact, if any, Katarina’s revelation will have on her career. Things appear to have normalized between Sreckovic and the Red Stars players, true, but the newfound notoriety could conceivably result in a career boost for Sreckovic. Her Instagram feed already has roughly 20,000 followers, and it’s not too hard to imagine legions of others joining in on keeping track of Katarina’s off-the-field exploits.
In any case, Sreckovic is back on the sidelines, living her dream, and the Red Star players have gotten back to football. Of course, if Sreckovic takes the sideline wearing anything like what she does in her Instagram feed, the problem could rear its head all over again.
