‘Neighbor Cop Molested My Son’: Georgia Mom Says Police Officer Had ‘Inappropriate Relationship” With Teen

A mom in Georgia says that the police officer next door molested her 15-year-old son — and she wants to know what the police department in the city of Smyrna is going to do about it. The allegedly inappropriate relationship between the accused police officer and the teen boy comes just four months after a police officer in Seattle, Washington, was arrested on charges that he molested a seven-year old girl.

The mom in Georgia did not want her name revealed to protect the privacy of son and her family, and the name of the police officer has not been released because he has not yet been charged with anything.

The police department in Smyrna — a city of about 50,000 outside of Atlanta — issued a statement confirming the accusation against its officer.

“The Smyrna Police Department had received a complaint alleging an officer has been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile male. The matter is being investigated by the Cobb County Crimes Against Children Unit and the Smyrna Police Internal Affairs Division. Being that this is an active investigation we are not able to release information at this time.”

The mom told her story to a local TV station, CBS 46, saying that the relationship between her teenage son and the police officer — who is her next door neighbor — appeared to begin innocently enough, earlier this year.

The cop asked the teen boy to help him with errands, including walking the officer’s dog. But the boy’s mom became alarmed when her son started spending time inside the cop’s apartment, which did not seem consistent with a dog-walking assignment.

“You don’t need to be in the apartment for that,” the mom told CBS 46.

One evening when the boy did not return home, she went over to the cop’s apartment to look for him.

“When I went up to knock on the door it took about 5 minutes for them to open the door,” the mom said. “You could hear them walk up to the door and look out the peep-hole. They walked away, and they told me they were coming. My son opened the door.”

She then examined her son’s cell phone and found text messages with explicit sexual content — so explicit that the CBS 46 would not reveal the text on the air. In one text, even the officer seemed shocked by the boy’s messages, responded to one by writing, “Oh wow…don’t send that to my phone.”

But the mom says that the police investigators who are supposed to be looking into the “inappropriate relationship” have not even examined the text messages and she wants to know what the police are going to do next.

“If you can’t count on them, who can you count on?” she said, calling it “disgusting” that a cop may have molested a boy.
