Derek Hough Rocks Cute Costume, Reveals This Week’s ‘DWTS’ Routine Theme

Derek Hough looked like a devious devil in last week’s Halloween-themed Dancing with the Stars routine, but he chose a cuter, cuddlier Halloween costume for a visit to the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

In a TV Guide blog post, Derek Hough revealed that he’s pretty terrible at coming up with Halloween costume ideas.

“I am heading to a children’s hospital to spend Halloween with the kiddies. Hollywood Halloween parties are fun and all, but I really miss going trick-or-treating with my nieces and nephews, so I thought it’d be nice to see some kids for Halloween. Before you ask, I don’t have a costume. I know, I know. I’m pretty terrible with costumes.”

Hough went on to write that his “default costume is gothic or punk rock,” and it usually involves plenty of guyliner. He joked that he wanted to slather the dark makeup around his eyes and tell the kids that he was supposed to be a new superhero named “Eyeliner Man.”

However, Derek Hough ultimately decided against dressing up like a goth superhero. According to Just Jared, the Dancing with the Stars pro opted to be an oddly muscular version of the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. As you can see from the Instagram photo below, it appears as though other volunteers at the Children’s Hospital helped Hough pick out the perfect costume.

Hough commended his fellow volunteers in the caption of his Instagram post.

“Bringing OZ to the Children’s Hospital for Halloween. So great to see all the kids faces light up, and to be around those who dedicate their life to serving others and saving lives.”

Derek Hough’s Halloween experience at the Children’s Hospital was nothing like the one he had with Bethany Mota a few days earlier. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Derek and Bethany visited a haunted house to prepare for Dancing with the Stars‘ Halloween-themed night, and poor Derek didn’t look like he enjoyed being scared. Hough also got quite a fright when Sasha Farber dressed like a creepy clown and hid in a refrigerator. You can watch Hough’s delightful reactions to being scared over and over again in the video below.

Derek Hough will be in costume again this week on Dancing with the Stars, but now he’s going for kooky rather than spooky. He and Bethany Mota will be doing a salsa routine, and it’s going to have an I Love Lucy theme.

Bethany doesn’t just have to channel one of the greatest comedic actresses of all time — her Lucy will have to learn some difficult steps.

“I have some fun ideas for it that I haven’t completely settled on yet,” Derek Hough wrote on his blog. “I’m also starting to make the routines a little harder for her.”

The DWTS pro promised “more tricks” this week. However, it sounds like Bethany Mota and her partner are having a blast practicing their tough routine.

“I also really want to interject some fun and humor. And yes, we’ve been working on our Lucy and Ricky impressions all week. She goes, ‘Oh, Ricky!’ And I’m like, ‘Lucy! You got some ‘splaining to do!’ I think my Ricky is pretty good if I do say so myself!”

At least Bethany can claim that she’s just doing a classic Lucy screw-up if she fails to complete one of her tricks.

Do you think Bethany Mota and Derek Hough will make the perfect Lucy and Ricky on Dancing with the Stars?
