The show Live! with Kelly and Michael is known for its detailed and outrageous Halloween shows, and the bar was set high for this year. What did Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s Halloween plan look like when all was said and done? The show had been dishing out hints all week and it all came together on Friday. From the looks of things, Kelly, Michael and the rest of the show’s crew pulled it off yet again.
As has become the norm with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s Halloween shows, there was a plethora of characters incorporated. Not only were Kelly, Michael, Gelman, Art, and the others dressed up in fabulous get-ups, there was a full music video and a ton of celebrity cameos. The fun played out throughout the full hour of the show, but the video put together for the episode may well be stealing the spotlight.
As Gossip Cop notes, the video centered around Taylor Swift’s hit “Shake It Off,” with Ripa’s Halloween costume choices mirroring Swift’s character in the video. Taylor even made an appearance in the bit. Other costumes Kelly and Michael wore for the Live! Halloween episode incorporated Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Piper Chapman and Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black, and characters from Downton Abbey and Mad Men.
In fact, as the Daily Mail notes, the Live! Halloween special incorporated a whopping 50 costume changes all in the course of the one episode. The Walking Dead stars Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan started off the show and Kelly, Michael, and Gelman had some zombie moments. The Downton Abbey home popped up with Ripa playing Lady Mary Crawley and she later tackled Christina Hendricks’ Mad Men character Joan Holloway as well.
Celebrity cameos were sprinkled throughout the episode with fan favorites like Neil Patrick Harris, Kerry Washington, Anderson Cooper, Sofia Vergara, Hugh Jackman and Emma Stone popping up in various capacities. The Live! Halloween special also tackled the HBO show Game Of Thrones, with Kelly as Daenerys Targaryen and Michael as Nights’ Watchman Jon Snow.
The cast and crew pulled together quite the impressive feat by pairing costumes and skits covering opposite shows and concepts like both The Sound of Music and Naked and Afraid along with an entertaining “trailer” featuring Kim and Kanye in Downton Abbey. Many fans would have thought it would be hard to top last year’s Live! special where Kelly did Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” character, but this year’s Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan Halloween special was definitely a hit.
