Elton John On Pope Francis: ‘Make This Man A Saint’

Elton John is singing Pope Francis’ praises after the Pope’s very controversial comments on the LGBT community and including evolution in religion. The topic of discussion came up when the openly gay singer attended his annual AIDS benefit.

At the AIDS benefit, the musician called Pope Francis his hero for his acceptance of the LGBT community into the Catholic church. The event went on the raise $3.7 million on Tuesday, but what’s getting most attention is his support of the Pope.

According to the Independent, Elton wants to Pope to become a saint, telling the crowd, “Make this man a saint now, OK?”

During this discussion, Elton John highlights how far the LGBT community has come, and how it was only a few short years ago that they were at odds with the church.

“Ten years ago one of the biggest obstacles in the fight against AIDS was the Catholic Church. Today we have a pope that speaks out about it.”

John continued to praise the Pope, highlighting all of his attributes, including just how rare his support is for a religion that has previously shunned the gay community.

“He is a compassionate, loving man who wants everybody to be included in the love of God. It is formidable what he is trying to do against many, many people in the church that opposes. He is courageous and he is fearless, and that’s what we need in the world today.”

As for the Pope’s comments on evolution, the Inquisitr reported, that this was a shocking revelation.

“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so. He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfillment. God is not a divine being or a magician, but the Creator who brought everything to life. Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

The president of Italy’s National Institute for Astrophysics said of the Pope’s statement, “The Pope’s statement is significant. We are the direct [descendants] from the Big Bang that created the universe. Evolution came from creation.”

As for Elton John, we suspect he will speak out in support of the Pope for years to come.
