Drunk Dad Makes 9-Year-Old Daughter Designated Driver [Video]

Shawn Weimer, 39, of Detroit, Michigan won’t be winning any father of the year awards after he drank too much on Saturday October 8 and handed the keys to his family vehicle to a designated driver, his 9-year-old daughter.

Weimer placed his daughter on a booster seat so she could see out the front wind and then they stopped at a Citgo station where he bought her a candy apple as a reward. While at the station Weimer told the attendant:

“I got a designated driver. Nine years old. Nine. Dad, drinking. Listen, we’re leaving, and she’s driving.”

Another customer heard the conversation and called police, when pulled over in the family van the girl asked the arresting officer?

“What did you stop me for? I was driving good.”

The officer who pulled the family over told the Detroit Free Press that “she was doing fine”and even used her turn signal twice. The man who called 911 also confirmed her driving abilities, noting:

“She’s driving pretty good, I’m telling ya—I can’t believe it.”

When pulled over Weimer became argumentative and claimed to the officer that he was just teaching his daughter how to drive. The man’s daughter revealed to police that her dad had been drinking whiskey all night.

Weimer has four felony convictions on his record and refused a breathalyzer, he will likely face child abuse charges and could end up in prison for 15 years because of his felony past.

Here’s a video of the man and his daughter at the gas station where he was reported:

Sadly this isn’t the first time we’ve reported on a parent handing the keys over to a child, an 8-year-old designated driver was also spotted earlier this year.

How long do you think this dad should be sentenced for given his truly ridiculous choice in a designated driver?
