Jay Z And Beyonce Smoke, Strut, Stunt, And Stun In ‘Bang Bang’ Short Film

Fresh off the completion of a wildly popular tour, Beyonce and Jay Z are keeping the hype machine going. Jay and The ‘Yonce are now showing off their on-the-screen chops in Bang Bang, Part One, the first in a new series of short films that will see the world’s biggest music power couple on the run from the powers that be.

The video came to us by way of Nowness, which will be releasing each of the three short films that will make up Bang Bang. The series will follow Jay Z and Beyonce as a pair of outlaws on the run across the California desert. What California desert? Who cares? It’s Beyonce and Jay Z as Bonnie and Clyde, basically, with Jay smoking tons of cigars and putting them out on the hamburgers of unsuspecting newspaper readers. All shot in crisp, beautiful black and white.

Okay, not totally as Bonnie and Clyde. In an interview with the director of Jay and Bey’s short films, it comes out that Jay actually nixed the notion of he and Beyonce literally playing Bonnie and Clyde in the shorts.

“He said: ‘We’re not trying to do this literally,'” director Dikayl Rimmasch said of Jay Z, “‘it’s not that we’re Bonnie and Clyde. We’re on the run from everything. On the run from becoming a cliché. On the run from doing the same thing again.’ Everything he mentioned was a level of consciousness he has for staying alive as an entertainer and as a human being.”

The films, Nowness notes, appeared on and off during Beyonce and Jay Z’s On The Run tour, which came to an end on Saturday at Stade de France in Paris.

Part two of the film will premiere on Nowness on Tuesday. As 2DopeBoyz notes, Beyonce and Jay Z’s HBO special On The Run Tour: Beyonce and Jay Z will premiere on September 20.

Beyonce and Jay Z shrugged off split rumors during their tour.

That tour saw Jay Z and Beyonce opening to sold out stadiums again and again, even as rumors proliferated that Jay and Bey were on the verge of a breakup. Quiet as it’s kept, the possibility of a Bey-Jay breakup was laughable, but some say the two played up the gossip in order to keep their names in the news and make sure the seats were filmed during the tour.

Just before Beyonce and Jay went on tour, video emerged of Beyonce’s sister Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator. That sparked endless talk of Jay Z’s alleged infidelity – why else would she attack him? – and eventual talks of a divorce. Beyonce’s father called the rumors a “Jedi Mind Trick” that kept the public’s focus on Beyonce and Jay, and he says it worked.

“Everyone’s talking about it,” Mathew Knowles said back in August. “Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent.”
