Michael Douglas Has Nothing But Love For Marvel

Michael Douglas, like many people in the movie business these days, is more than happy to grab some of the money tossed around by Marvel Studios.

Since the company is producing some of the biggest motion pictures on the market, it’s not altogether surprising that quite a few actors and actresses are flocking to the studio in search of a paycheck. Robert Redford proved earlier this year that even seasoned Hollywood vets can join the fray. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a huge hit, and the Redford’s performance was spot-on.

Fatal Attraction star Michael Douglas is getting in on the cinematic action next year. Director Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man, which stars Paul Rudd as the titular superhero, is presently slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2015. Not surprisingly, Douglas had nothing but wonderful things to say about Marvel and Reed. Because, you know, biting that hand that signs your check is never a good thing. Just ask Terrence Howard.

During his recent chat with Vulture, Michael Douglas described his experience thus far with Ant-Man. According to the actor, Peyton Reed is doing a splendid job bringing the superhero to the big screen. Somewhere, Edgar Wright is seething.

“He’s good. I haven’t started yet, actually — I go down tomorrow, and it’s my first day. So I’ve met him a couple times, but he seems to be in control of this beast, this wild beast. Marvel has got it down to a science, pretty much, and they’ve got kind of a phenomenal track record.”

Douglas also had plenty of praise for James Gunn’s summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Then again, who doesn’t?

“I love this picture they did this summer, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ It’s really good! I think that’s given Marvel the confidence to step out in this whole new area, so I’m looking forward to adding to it.”

Cinema Blend points out that Michael Douglas portrays Dr. Hank Pym, the man responsible for discovering the matter that gives Ant-Man the power to shrink. Although Michael’s character is a former superhero, the actor said he isn’t battling bad guys on-screen in the upcoming flick. Instead, he’s leaving the heavy lifting to star Paul Rudd.

“My costume will be hung up, and Paul will be wearing it in good form.”

What do you think about Michael Douglas signing on for Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man? Are you surprised the award-winning actor decided to sign on for a Marvel movie?
