Young Thug Calls Birdman His ‘Lover,’ Feuds With Kevin Gates On Instagram
Young Thug recently confused his legion of followers on Instagram after referring to Birdman as his “lover.” It also apparently prompted a feud with fellow rapper Kevin Gates.
Since homosexuality and rap music usually don’t go hand-in-hand — a controversial topic Macklemore tackled in his tune “Same Love” from his award-winning album The Heist — it’s not altogether surprising that Young Thug’s fans were more than a little shocked by his curious admission on social media. His post resulted in a virtual torrent of misguided hate, including a short response from Gates.
According to Urban Islandz, Thug caused a stir with a decidedly unexpected video on Instagram. The clip featured the rapper onstage with Birdman, a situation that Young Thug was obviously very pleased to share with the rest of the world.
While the aforementioned clip isn’t really all that strange in and of itself, it’s the caption that immediately caught everyone’s attention.

AllHipHop reports that Young Thug was quickly the subject of several ugly and mean-spirited comments from followers. What’s more, rapper Kevin Gates waded into the controversy surrounding the post with a quick retort of his own. While the clip has since disappeared from his Instagram page, it’s still very much alive and well on YouTube.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Young Thug’s comments have caused folks to question his sexuality. Preceding the aforementioned drama was a Twitter post that suggest he and Rich Homie Quan were more than friends. Thug is possibly having some fun by twisting up rap fans, but people aren’t very willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“Me and my hubbie!!! @richhomiequan 4life udigg,” he wrote.
Not surprisingly, people didn’t hesitate to weigh in on the situation.
