Joan Rivers On Life Support: Family Faced With Life-Death Issues [Report]

Breaking News: The latest news on Joan Rivers’ condition is grim. Sources close to the comedian say Rivers is now on life-support, and the family has to make critical decisions in the coming days.

A TMZ source close to the developments say Joan Rivers’ condition has taken a turn for the worst. Reportedly, the iconic comedian and fashionista critic is totally relying on an apparatus that allows her to breathe and remain alive. However, family members are hopeful that the 81-year-old will experience a miracle and recover from ill-health.

Joan Rivers was placed on life support and a medical-induced coma by doctors to treat serious conditions that led to her slipping into an unconscious state days ago.

As reported previously by The Inquisitr, Rivers was raced to a hospital in New York on Thursday after an outpatient surgery on her throat. Doctors say Rivers had stopped breathing and suffered cardiac arrest at the time. Some say it likely was side-effects from anesthesia. However, this has not been confirmed.

Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa Rivers, made a statement shortly after news broke that her mom was admitted to a hospital emergency room. At the time, Melissa said her mom was “resting comfortably.”

My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious … We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”

With this new information about Rivers on life-support, it paints a dismal picture of any likely recovery. As some doctors weighed in on several television networks, a forced coma is often done as a precaution for someone who has stopped breathing for a time. It prevents the brain from swelling and increases chances it will get oxygenated blood.

The critical piece of information unknown or not releases is how long Rivers was not breathing before she reached the treatment facility. Moreover, because of her advanced age, being on life-support is unsettling.

Melissa Rivers, who is said to have power of attorney, is likely gripped in what to do should the time come when she has to decide to pull the plug or not. Hopefully, Joan Rivers recovers from this setback in her health, and her family is not faced with end of life issues.
