Niall Horan Teases ‘Edgy’ New One Direction Album

Niall Horan believes the next One Direction album will have more of a bite.

While it’s doubtful the guys are heading into such rocky terrain that they’ll get slapped with a “Parental Advisory” sticker, Horan believes the upcoming batch of songs will amp up the “edgy” factor. In all fairness, it wouldn’t take much to make that happen. Niall and his boys are definitely talented, but their music is about as safe as it gets.

According to the London Evening Standard, Niall Horan opened up about the new album during his appearance on the Today show. While fellow singer Liam Payne was content to discuss how many songs the group contributed to the upcoming record, Horan wanted the world to know that they’re not playing it too safe this time around.

“I think it’s gonna be a little bit more edgy, but obviously, we feel like we’ve got some really good songs and we’re happy.”

So how edgy is the new One Direction album? Is Niall Horan just messing with our minds? The Inquisitr previously reported that Zayn Malik recently spent some time with rapper Naught Boy in the studio. Although it’s unclear what the fellas put together, there’s always a chance Malik could flex his hip-hop skills on the new 1D record.

Naughty Boy seemed impressed with Zayn’s abilities.

“Zayn’s actually quite a good rapper. We’ve been in the studio doing some One Direction stuff and you know, he can spit bars! Of course he can! Big up Zayn and his bars.”The song’s amazing that we’ve done. Emeli [Sandé] wrote on it as well and this new guy Sam Roman who’s on my next single as well.”

To further prove Horan’s point, Liam Payne reportedly spent some time with Pharrell Williams in the studio not too long ago. While it’s unclear if 1D will officially hook up with the award-winning singer and producer, Williams didn’t seem entirely opposed to the idea. Cross your fingers tight if you’d love to see this sort of thing take place.

Here’s what Pharrell had to say about the situation:

“Liam stopped by my studio. I think he’s just genuinely curious about music. We have that in common. He’s always wanting to see what’s new and what’s next.”
