Ariana Grande Cancels Two July 4th Performances, Jets Back To Florida

Ariana Grande has had a hectic week! After the singer celebrated her 21st birthday last week on June 26, she dropped her new single “Break Free” on MTV as she hosted a special called Total Ariana Live. The new single features EDM producer Zedd and is a follow-up to her massively popular “Problem” hit.

Then Ariana was off to New York to record a performance of “Problem” for the Macy’s July 4th Fireworks celebration. Ariana recorded the segment a day early; yesterday Ariana actually left New York early to jet back to Florida to spend time with her grandpa in the hospital. Ariana addressed the issue on her Twitter, telling her fans:

“NY I’m sorry u saw less of me this trip. off to the g-parents in FL. they need me & now I gotta be there. love u & thank u for understanding.”

This also means Ariana had to cancel two performances she had lined up for July 4th: a Philly Jam performance and Wawa Welcome America gig. Since the Macy’s performance was pre-recorded, it still aired during last night’s July 4th festivities.

As we’ve previously reported, Miss Grande also became the first confirmed performer for this year’s VMAs, which air on MTV August 24. She hasn’t revealed yet which song she’ll perform, but it’s a safe bet we’ll most likely hear some of “Problem” and her new song, “Break Free,” which Zed says will be “a really big song for the summer.”

What else we’ll hear on the rest of Ariana’s second album, My Everything, remains unknown, but there’s been speculation that we might hear a love ballad or two inspired by Ariana’s boyfriend, Jai Brooks. Jai, a 19 year-old comedian, recently reunited with his former flame and gave her a birthday shoutout on Twitter:

“happy birthday to the most beautiful girl in the world, you are 21!!! you’re my world I really love you. here’s to so many more memories!!”

Between family time, new singles, a new album, and a rekindled love, seems like Ariana is keeping busy this summer, and with only a busier fall to look forward to!
