Cameron Diaz Reveals: ‘I Was Never Drawn To Being A Mother’

Cameron Diaz has to be one of the sexiest woman in Hollywood and, following a recent interview with Esquire Magazine‘s July edition, a brave one too.

In the candid interview, Diaz spoke frankly about why she decided never to have children, even though it was a tough call. What makes it even harder is the fact that it’s a rarity for celebrities not to have children these days, which places Cameron Diaz in the minority.

But she was open about the fact that motherhood simply wasn’t for her, telling the magazine:

“It’s so much more work to have children. To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for — I didn’t take that on. That did make things easier for me. A baby — that’s all day, every day for eighteen years.”

Perhaps it’s no surprise that Diaz isn’t into the whole baby thing, since ABC reported in April that the 41-year-old doesn’t believe in monogamy, as she said:

“A lot of people chase after it because they’ve been told, This equals happiness. They chase it, they get it, and then they find out, ‘Why did I think this was going to make me happy? I’m miserable.”

But back to the Esquire interview where Diaz revealed that she knows who and what she is and is comfortable with that, sharing:

“I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother. I have it much easier than any of them. That’s just what it is. Doesn’t mean life isn’t sometimes hard. I’m just what I am. I work on what I am. Right now, I think, things are good for me. I’ve done a lot. And I don’t care anymore.”

So it seems that not everyone in Hollywood is set on building a family, or settling down and having kids. Cameron Diaz is one of only a few who spring to mind, but perhaps she has it right, if you consider the massive divorce rates among celebs.
