‘Star Trek 3’ Information Released By New Director

Star Trek 3 will continue to go where no one has gone before.

Roberto Orci, who has been named writer and director for the third installment, released a few plot bits about the film. On the Humans From Earth podcast on the Den of Geeks website, Orci has said the crew will find themselves in deep space. “In this movie they are closer than they are to the original characters that you have ever seen,” adding “they have set off on their five year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space”.

Orci takes over directorial duties from J.J. Abrams, who is currently busy working on Star Wars 7.

Asked to elaborate on the plot for the new film, Orci said “in (Into Darkness) they finally set out where the original series started. In the first two films-especially the 2009 (Star Trek)-was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second film.

He added: “So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space,” reports the Digital Spy UK website.

Orci has plenty of experience with writing. His credits include writing for the first two motion pictures, as well as Transformers and Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. He also holds many credits for producing, including the aforementioned Star Trek movies, according to the Internet Movie Database website. The third installment of the movie will be his first directorial effort.

Asked which villain will feature in the next film, he quipped: “The Horta is actually the villain in the next one – no, they are in deep space now, so let’s see what’s out there.” This has led fans to speculate as to what direction they will go as far as an advserary, whether Orci will bring back Klingon or Romulans from the original series, the Borg or Q from the Next Generation, or come up with a brand new nemesis for the crew of the Enterprise. Orci has remained silent on this plot point, however.

This installment is scheduled for release in 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. The cast for the first two films are expected to return.
