Randy Travis Still Can’t Speak A Year After Stroke

Randy Travis is reportedly still unable to speak or sing following the stroke that he suffered last year.

Travis was just 54-years-old when he was struck down by the attack and it’s now been revealed that the damage that was inflicted on him was so severe that he has lost complete use of his voice.

The singer of such classics as “Three Wooden Crosses,” “Diggin’ Up Bones,” and “Forever And Ever, Amen,” is allegedly unable to even utter a sentence. A source told TMZ, “[Randy Travis] can’t form a sentence and it’s unclear if he is even lucid enough to follow a conversation.”

This revelation is quite a surprise because the 55-year-old even attended a Dolly Parton concert earlier this month. A photo was posted to Parton’s Facebook page which showed Parton, a smiling Travis and Janie Fricke backstage at her concert in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

At the same concert Parton even dedicated a song to Travis. She told the crowd, “There are some people you just love and admire for their talents. Tonight, one of those people are here. Randy Travis, wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying the show.”

Travis’ stroke was brought on by viral heart failure. He was admitted to a Dallas area hospital on July 7, 2013, with early symptoms of this condition and then three days later he suffered the stroke, and surgery was then performed to relieve the pressure that was on his brain.

Travis was ultimately released from hospital towards the end of the month, before he entered a physical therapy facility in order to undergo his recovery. He has obviously struggled to return to full fitness though as over the last 12 months it has been reported that he can’t walk without the use of a cane.

Travis has since looked to stay out of the public limelight as he has undergone his rehabilitation. Despite these various setbacks Travis’ therapist has proclaimed that he still believes that the singer might return to the stage at some point in the future, but he conceded that it won’t be for at least three years.

The country and gospel singer is widely regarded as one of the most prolific singers of the last three decades in American music. Since 1985 he has released 20 albums, including the likes of Storms Of Life and No Holdin’ Back, and he has had over 50 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 16 of which reached the number one spot.
