Fans Remember Tupac Shakur on His 43rd Birthday


Fans of Tupac expressed birthday wishes on Twitter yesterday with the hashtag #HappyBirthdayTupac for the late rapper that would have celebrated his 43rd birthday. Tupac was shot eighteen years ago in September 1996 in Las Vegas. He was born in 1971 in East Harlem and started his musical path as a roadie and emcee. He then joined rap ground Digital Underground before launching his solo rap career in the early nineties.

Even more than a decade after his death, Tupac’s murder remains unsolved, with Suge Knight and others claiming he is still alive. This perhaps helps his legacy stay alive and thriving, as thousands of birthday wishes for the influential rapper flooded in.

Tupac is also considered a legend for his outstanding discography, recording 11 albums and having 44 singles released. His name is synonymous with West Coast hip hop and his influence on modern music is still felt. He’s also known for his various acting roles in movies such as Poetic Justice and Bullet. A Tupac biopic is also in the works by filmmaker John Singleton.

Recently, it’s been revealed what Tupac’s final words were. In an interview with former Las Vegas police office Chris Carroll, he shares his detailed account of what he saw that night back in 1996:

“He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘f*ck you.’ After that, he started gurgling and slipping out of consciousness. An ambulance showed up, and he went into unconsciousness.”
