Michelle Obama Makes Campaign Stop in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – First Lady Michelle Obama visited Utah on Tuesday to campaign on behalf of her husband.

While Mrs. Obama was not expected to make any public appearances, she did attend a private fund raising event at the home of a Mark Gilbert, a former Obama campaign staff member in the Park City area.

President Obama himself has yet to visit Utah since his election in 2008, canceling a 2009 scheduled event in order to avoid conflicts with the funeral of the late LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley.

Mrs. Obama eventually visited in the president’s stead.

Following the Utah event, the First Lady heads to Aspen, Colorado where she will speak in yet another private fundraiser organized by the Democratic National Committee.

The First Lady’s visit comes during a key moment in the Obama presidency, as the national debt debate rages on.

The president has already canceled scheduled campaign events in other states in order to address the budget battle between congressional democrats and republicans.
