Alexandra Hedison: Jodie Foster’s New Wife Has History With Ellen DeGeneres

Alexandra Hedison and Jodie Foster were quietly married this weekend, and though they’ve chosen to remain quiet about their relationship it was actually one of Hedison’s exes that paved the way for their Hollywood union.

Foster acknowledged her sexuality publicly for the first time in a 2013 Golden Globes acceptance speech, finally confirming what many had known about her for decades. In her speech she acknowledged that coming out as gay has become something of a requirement in Hollywood, that actors can no longer live quiet, private lives away from the prying eyes of media and fans.

“I hope that you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming out speech tonight because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the stone age, those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly, to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met,” she said at the time. “But now apparently, I’m told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance, and a prime-time reality show. And you guys might be surprised, but I am not Honey Boo Boo Child.”

Interestingly enough, it was a former girlfriend of Foster’s now-wife Alexandra Hedison who may have started the trend. Back in 2001, Hedison dated comedian Ellen DeGeneres, just after the now-talk show host broke up with actress Anne Heche.

Alexandra Hedison and Ellen dated for three years, though Ellen ultimately left Alexandra for Portia de Rossi.

Many seen Ellen as groundbreaker, one who proved that high-profile actors would be expected to share details about their personal life, including sexual orientation.

There’s no word if Ellen attended the nuptials between Alexandra Hedison and Jodie Foster, or at least send a nice wedding card.
