St. Louis Blues vs Chicago Blackhawks game four kicks off tonight in Chi-town at 9:30 P.M. Eastern/8:30 Central Time. The Blackhawks will try to even the series up at two games apiece in front of their home crowd. The St. Louis Blues will try not to let history repeat itself – again – by blowing an early series lead in the playoffs.

According to an AP report, the St. Louis players aren’t putting nearly as much emphasis on the Blues’ history of blowing playoff leads as the media is. The report quotes Blues defenseman Barret Jackman:

“Within our walls, I don’t think anyone is even thinking about last year. The media comes in and you get all the comparisons. But really it’s about what we’re doing now. We’re playing good hockey. We’re playing against a team that is very hungry and has a lot of good experience.”

Left winger Alexander Steen echoed the same sentiment going into game four of the Blackhawks vs Blues series:

“Last year is last year and this is this year. We’re playing a different team. We’re focused on what we’re doing now and not what we’ve done in the past.”

Still, Blues fans remember all too well that their boys were up 2-0 in last year’s series against the Los Angeles Kings. Then, Jonathan Quick played a brilliant game in goal and blanked the Blues. St. Louis fans have to be feeling a little deja vu looking at the results of game three in the Blues vs Blackhawks series.

The Chicago Blackhawks looked like the defending Stanley Cup champions in game three, blanking the St. Louis Blues 2-0. Corey Crawford was perfect in goal, stopping 34 shots. An AP report quotes Crawford saying this about his lights out performance:

“I’m just going shot by shot. It’s all I could do the whole game was worry about the next one and focus on the next shot and stop that. I don’t want anything else going through my mind through that hockey game.”

Both teams will be looking to pick up their power play. Together, the teams went a collective 0 for 7 on power plays in game three. The Blues failed to convert on three power play opportunities, the Blackhawks on four. Over the long haul of, a best of seven series, that kind of statistic favors the defensive-minded St. Louis Blues.
