ThinkGeek Debuts iPad Friendly iCade Gaming Cabinet

The geniuses at ThinkGeek have done it again, this time offering the iPad-based iCade gaming cabinet that turns your modern marvel into a retro-styled 80s arcade unit.

As shown in the picture above the users iPad easily slides into the cabinet at which point a classic joystick with arcade buttons are used to control cabinet friendly games.

The system was made in partnership with ION Audio and supports iPad and iPad 2 devices and can even support cases for both units as long as the screen and docking port are accessible.

In terms of connectivity the docking station uses two AA batteries and your iPad connects via bluetooth.

Users can download and play more than 100 Atari games which have been licensed for the iCade and are available via the Atari’s Greatest Hits app. Users who purchase the iCade and download the app will also receive Missile Command for free, while most games come in packs of three to four for just $1 or 100 games for $15.

The iCade is only available in limited quantities and is currently selling for $100, in the meantime you can check out the video below to see the iCad in action.

Not bad for a system that was thought up as an April Fools joke in 2010.
