Harry Connick Jr. Invests Last ‘Save’ Of American Idol On Sam Woolf

American Idol 2014 finalist Sam Woolf got another chance to continue competing in the show thanks to the firm intervention of the judges including Harry Connick Jr.

While multiple fans weren’t exactly happy that the judges chose to invest their limited ‘saves’ on Sam Woolf, Harry Connick Jr. strongly felt the young performer has a lot going for him at the moment and it would certainly help the competition. While speaking to Synergistic Productions, Connick said, “He’s starting to make decisions that are helping him on stage. He’s a very, very young performer but we’ve seen a lot of progress,” reported AmericanIdolNet.

Harry must be referring to the advice which he gave Woolf regarding connecting with the audience to help gain acceptance. Last week, after Woolf performed Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House,” Judge Harry Connick Jr. had advised that connecting with the audience would boost his performance, and apparently Woolf took the advice seriously. After his first performance since the save last week, Woolf thanked the judges and said he has spent the past week practicing harder than ever and concentrating on connecting with the audience.

Clearly his heartfelt attempt wasn’t lost on the judges when Judge Jennifer Lopez said, “You know what? I could see it right there.” Ironically, the same feelings didn’t reach the audience though, because Woolf got the fewest votes. But the public reactions were overruled by the judges after he sang for his “Idol” life, reported Bradenton.com.

Harry Connick Jr. has been one of Woolf’s strongest supporters and most acute observers. He has been giving the young contestant multiple tips about stage presence and performance. However, Woolf was in for a sweet surprise, when Connick advised, “You looked in the camera almost the entire time. You’re surrounded by these beautiful young girls. Look at them. It’s OK to look at them.”

Connick even advised Woolf to look up clips of Rick Nelson. Harry thinks both are quite similar and Woolf could take a cue or two from Rick about stage presence and charisma. “He’s not dissimilar to you. Watch what he does. Something may click for you if you do that” said Connick.

Interestingly this is the last ‘Save’ for this season of American Idol. From here on judges can only offer advice. It is now entirely up to the audience to let Woolf continue or send him back to Bradenton using the votes. Only time will tell if Judge Harry Connick Jr. took a wise decision for Woolf.
