Cristin Milioti Joins Cast Of Rashida Jones Produced ‘A To Z’ Pilot On NBC

Cristin Milioti, the actual mother from How I Met Your Mother, has found her next role. She will be joining the cast of Rashida Jones’ next television project, A To Z. NBC has picked up the pilot of the single camera comedy, co-produced by Ben Queen and Will McCormack.

Audiences are getting familiar with Cristin Milioti in the ninth and final season of How I Met Your Mother. The popular CBS comedy waited until this season to reveal Milioti as the title character. The show is scheduled to come to an end on March 31st 2014.

A To Z will be a comedy about the relationship between a young couple from the beginning to the break up. Only the pilot has been picked up so far and Milioti is the first member to be cast. She will star as Zelda, who is in a relationship with the lead male character Andrew. Zelda is described as, “Alternately serious and hilarious, Zelda loves being a grown-up and doesn’t understand why anyone over 20 would go see an animated movie or eat ice cream sundaes. Destiny and fate are not in her vocabulary; she believes she controls her own destiny.”

Largely unknown before her role in How I Met Your Mother, Cristin Milioti started to first get recognition for his stage acting career. She received a Tony nomination for her role in in the 2012 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Once, when she played the part of “Girl”. Besides her work on stage and other broadway productions, Milioti appeared in three episodes of The Sopranos and played Teresa Petrillo in The Wolf of Wall Street.

One of the reasons the 28 year-old actress was chosen for How I Met Your Mother was her relative obscurity. This gave the writers a blank slate to work with in terms of shaping an identity. If NBC chooses to keep A To Z going, it would be a huge win for Milioti’s career. Working alongside of Rashida Jones will give her an opportunity to learn from one of comedy’s best actresses.

Though no date has been set for the A To Z pilot, Milioti is the first cast member, it has definitely been given the green light. Co-producer Ben Queen has already written the pilot episode and Michael Patrick Jann (Drop Dead Gorgeous) is set to direct the episode.

Cristin Milioti has been well received by fans of How I Met Your Mother and Rashida Jones is hoping they can build upon that success for the A To Z pilot.
