Katy Perry’s Cover Of The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’ Irritates The Internet

Katy Perry did the unthinkable during a recent CBS special: She changed the lyrics to a very popular song by The Beatles.

Although some may argue that the changes she made to “Yesterday” were minor, messing with a sacred cow in such a fashion is only going to get you raked across the virtual coals. Not surprisingly, very few people were overly impressed with the alterations Perry made during her cover of the tune.

Katy Perry’s vocals were on-point during her appearance on The Beatles: The Night That Changed America—A Grammy Salute, though this didn’t matter to the legion of Beatles enthusiasts who felt the “Roar” singer shouldn’t tackle a song of this caliber.

During the aforementioned performance, Perry decided to deliver the line “Suddenly, I’m not half the woman I used to be” instead of the one penned by the group. She also belted out the lyric “Why he had to go; I don’t know he wouldn’t say” to tailor the tune to her gender. While this sort of alteration isn’t entirely unheard of, it’s the first time a female pop star has publicly changed “Yesterday” in the age of social media.
