‘The Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman Discusses Possible Video Game Crossover

The Walking Dead video game from Telltale Games is a huge success, prompting some folks to ponder the possibility of a crossover.

Since the television series and the aforementioned adventure game take place in the same universe, it’s not out altogether outrageous to think that characters from one medium could crossover into the other. While the likelihood exists, The Walking Dead creator isn’t giving any concrete answers on the matter just yet.

“That door is always open for us, though whether or not we step through it remains a big question. I certainly wouldn’t want to spoil anything cool like that if we had it coming up. Scott Gimple, our showrunner, is certainly a huge fan of that game series as well and very familiar with it,” Kirkman recently told Wired.

Many fans of Telltale’s The Walking Dead video game picked up on something in the television series earlier this season. When Michonne mentioned making a trip to Machon, this was actually a sly reference to the interactive spin-off.

“That was a little nod to those fans, to let them know that we’re aware of the greater Walking Dead universe. It’s always fun to come up with those little things,” Kirkman added.

Judging from the ratings of the mid-season premiere, The Walking Dead is still going very strong. According to the Los Angeles Times, approximately 15.8 million viewers tuned in to see the aftermath of the Governor’s assault on the prison.

Although this number is slightly down from the mid-season finale — around 16.11 million folks watched that episode last year — AMC believes that a lot of people caught the recent episode on DVR. When those numbers are carefully worked into the equation, the cable network believes upwards of 20 million people watched Sunday’s premiere.

The Walking Dead managed to best the 2014 Winter Olympics in the 18 to 49 demographic. However, the sporting event won the evening with 25.4 million viewers overall. There are some things even zombies can’t defeat.

If you’re worried that your favorite character could bite the proverbial dust during the last half of season four, then you have fallen into the show’s trap. According to Kirkman, the producers want you think that anyone could die at any given moment.

“I love that the audience gets those feelings and I also think it’s important to note that those are valid feelings, because anything can happen and any character is on the table. I love the fact that you never will really know who’s safe,” he explained.
