Kevin Nealon Witnesses Fatal Aspen Plane Crash, Tweets About It

Kevin Nealon was waiting at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport when a private plane crashed into the runway during a landing attempt, bursting into flames and leaving one person dead.

The plane had departed from Mexico and made a stop in Tuscon, Arizona, before reaching the Aspen Airport. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office said that the co-pilot, 54-year-old Carranza Brabata, was the only person killed in the crash but two others were hurt.

“The airplane appears to be a Bombardier Challenger 600, coming from Tucson to Aspen. It crashed while attempting to land,” Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allan Kenitzer told the Aviation Safety Network,

The plane’s pilot remained seriously injured, and a passenger had more moderate injuries.

While many news outlets reported on the Aspen plane crash, some of the first reports came from former Saturday Night Live player Kevin Nealon, who was in the airport at the time.

“Horrible plane crash here at Aspen airport. Exploded into flames as it was landing. I think it was a private jet,” Nealon wrote, adding that emergency services were there within minutes.

“Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles still at scene. No word on survivors or who was on jet but I can’t imagine there are survivors,” Nealon added.

Kevin Nealon was not the only celebrity to witness the Aspen plane crash. Country singer and reality show star Leann Rimes was also on hand, tweeting details about it to fans.

“So sad! Horrible plane crash we just saw happen at the Aspen airport,” wrote Rimes.

Officials did not note the cause of the Aspen plane crash, but temperatures were hovering at 10 degrees with winds of 18 miles per hour at the time.

Witnessing the fatal plane crash left Kevin Nealon clearly shaken. A few minutes after the crash he tweeted: “Airport is closed now. I think I’ll drive back to LA after seeing that”
