Michael Shannon Will Play General Zod In New Superman Movie

Warner Bros. on Sunday announced that Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon has been cast to play General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman movie Man of Steel.

Shannon will play the nemesis to Superman, played by Henry Cavill. Also already announced for the film have been Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent).

In a statement Synder said of his casting decision:

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
